The place was nice. I was worried about the temperature situation after reading prior reviews- but I was relieved when I realized the cabin was easily warmed up with a space heater (there are multiple). I turned it off to sleep because I was warm. Yard was nice for dog. The shower was nice and hot. There were lots of dishes and kitchen-ware. There were a few things that didn't end up as expected. First off, I was disappointed at the other kitchen supplies (oil/ salt) after thinking there was lots of that type of stuff based on other reviews. But there was 0 oil and not even any salt. There is even a flyer on the fridge asking you to not leave any condiments and to instead toss them- which is fine, I just thought the other reviews meant there was stuff like spices/ oil to use for cooking-but no. The back door and sliding door are very hard to open/ shut. The cleaning lady showed up over 30 min before checkout- keeping car running until 11 in driveway (uncomfortable). Recommend overall

The black cabin was beautiful and the experience was truly like living in the midst of the woods. It's extremely close to both Mendocino and Fort Bragg and all attractions are really close. The kitchen was amazing and you could literally cook all meals there if you wanted. The cabin doesn't have heating except the wood fired stove so highly recommend taking a space heater as they have mentioned in the description. It gets awfully cold otherwise in these winter months. That being said, the comforters provided could have been a little warmer to combat the cold. Also, the bathroom window doesn't have a curtain and you can basically see the shower from outside (not exactly private)
The hosts were extremely responsive as well. One nitpick is that although the listing says it fits 5 people, there are only two queen beds and a sofa. The sofa doesn't have bedding, the hosts have mentioned that and you should ask for that before your stay.

The Black Cabin was perfect for our couple's getaway. A big selling point for us, especially in this age of difficulty eating out, was the well equipped kitchen which did not disappoint. The rest of the experience turned out wonderfully as well. The cabin is in a very tranquil, private setting but still an easy distance to Ft Bragg & Mendocino (where the botanical gardens are not to be missed). Self check-in was seamless. Though I don't mind doing dishes in general, being fully serviced and so not having to spend time on that was a very nice perk. We hope to return!

We loved our stay at the Black Cabin and felt it was very worth the price, especially for this area! It was very very cozy, and the hosts clearly put a lot of work and thoughtful touches into their property. It was comfortable for 4 adults, 2 dogs and a toddler. A few things to note: if you're super tall, your head may or may not graze the kitchen ceiling at it's lower end :) tallest member of our crew was 6' and he banged his head on the overhead lamp once or twice but wasn't bothered! Also, the wood stove is the only source of heat…we're used to that and brought our own firewood. The wood stove is HUGE for the space so it heats up very nicely with only a few logs! Just bring a space heater if that's not something you're comfortable with.
Communication with the hosts was easy and prompt. Short hop to Ft. Bragg and the coast. We'll definitely recommend to others who want to visit the area!

The black cabin was the PERFECT home away from home while visiting fort Bragg/ Mendocino! The location was in the middle of both locations making it so easy to enjoy both towns! Ben, Benjamin, and Mitch were great hosts and very quick to responses. I read the reviews prior to booking and knew the only heating source was a wood burning stove so we brought a little portable heater and it worked fine for the room you were in. The only thing i would suggest for the hosts is to have some spare blankets/quilts (there were only sheets and a comforter on the beds, no extra blankets/quilts) It was just my husband and I so we just took the blankets from one of the beds but if there were enough people to occupy both bedrooms, I'd say there isn't enough blankets. Other than that, everything was perfect! We'll be back and highly recommend this sweet oasis to everyone!

We absolutely loved our stay at this cabin! It was such a beautiful and peaceful place, and we felt very welcomed from the moment we arrived. We especially appreciated how accommodating they were with our three chihuahuas. It can sometimes be difficult traveling with dogs, so having a place where they were welcomed too made the trip even more special for us.
This trip was actually a surprise for my mom's birthday, and she absolutely loved it! She enjoyed the cabin and the whole experience so much that before we even left, she was already talking about planning a trip back.
The cabin was comfortable, cozy, and the perfect place for our family getaway. We had such a wonderful experience and would absolutely stay here again. Thank you for helping make my mom's birthday surprise so special and for making all of us, including our little pups, feel so welcome!

The Black Cabin is a perfect base for exploring Fort Bragg and Mendocino. It's a 10min drive to the former and about 15 to the latter. It feels extremely secluded.
The space itself is modern and wide open. I thoroughly enjoyed stoking the wood-burning furnace all weekend (we burned about a bundle per day, but we only lit it in once settled in for the afternoon/evening). The stove provides more than enough heat for the main area, but doesn't do much for the bedrooms.
The kitchen has all the hardware you need. The pantry had the essentials like salt, pepper, oil and a few condiments, but bring your own coffee. There is a picnic table for eating in the yard.
Check-in/out was a no-brainer. Benjamin was super helpful and responsive.
Five Stars, would stay again.

We visited for a girls' weekend and I absolutely loved the communication from the hosts, very clear instructions and accurate information detailed prior to us paying. The location was phenomenal, it is so close to beaches and other tourist attractions! I would recommend bringing something to cover the window in the bathroom, we taped cardboard up for added security, and also maybe something to tape on the doors for added security from the pitch black that the seclusion and nighttime offers. Be warned, the raccoons got into the trash the second night of our stay and scared us (not realizing it was raccoons initially) (LOL!). But the stay was amazing, hosts were amazing and I highly recommend the Black Cabin as a nice little getaway!

The black cabin was an amazing stay, and we are definitely coming back! It is located between Fort Bragg & Mendocino, so visiting either location is an easy 10 to 15 minute drive. It is super private with large windows, there's a large backyard that our pug loved to explore, and the cabin is especially spacious with a lot of amenities and an open kitchen- so things are easy to find, the Wi-Fi is fast, the bathroom is nice and clean, and the beds were comfortable. We really liked the wood stove but we did notice that it can be hard to control the heat levels. Regular fire wood can be hard to lit, so we recommend buying dura flame logs or bringing a space heater, because it can get cold.

Stayed at the Black Cabin for my son's second birthday. It was perfect because of how close it was to Ft Bragg, while also being secluded in the woods. House was well kept. Remember to bring some wood, as the nights get chilly on the coast. A little bit of wood was provided, but we came prepared. You can tell the hosts put a lot of thought and care into the layout and it shows. Be careful if you're tall, as there are low celeings and fans. Also, be careful with the shower. Curtain needs to just be a bit longer to wrap completely around the pole, and was a bit flimsy. Other than that we had a wonderful stay and look forward to possibly visiting in the future!

This place was better than the pictures! Such thoughtful and cute additions within that made the stay special. They have extra linens and a fully stocked kitchen which made the stay extra stress free. It's close enough to so many activities and stores which to made it convenient, but secluded enough to feel super private. They provided a heater for every room which was more than sufficient enough to keep it warm. The dogs loved the yard space and the house itself. I had a question and the host responded immediately. I will definitely be staying again in the future if I'm in the area. Thanks so much!

Our stay at the cabin was absolutely amazing! The cabin was cozy and comfortable, perfect for two people and our two dogs. The entire space was well equipped with everything we needed for the weekend. The location was stunning, with beautiful views of the surrounding forest and easy access to the beach. The entire area is beautiful, super dog friendly and a lot of fun! We particularly enjoyed visiting Glass Beach, which was just a short drive away, as well as taking a ride on the Skunk Train. Overall, we highly recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a fun getaway in Fort Bragg.

Mitch's place was wonderful! We really enjoyed our time at the cabin. It's tucked about two miles into the woods after you pass through the roundabout, which makes it feel private and secluded while still being right by the ocean. The setting is beautiful—surrounded by trees with everything you need for a comfortable stay. There's a classic drip coffee maker (no Keurig), which was actually a nice touch because it gave us the chance to pick up a bag of local coffee to enjoy. The kitchen is wrapped in windows, so you can sip your morning coffee while watching wildlife and the sunrise.

We loved our stay here! It was very spacious and we loved how private it is tucked away in the woods. We had our two year old son and 12 year old golden retriever with us and they loved it too. It's not super kid friendly, but we didn't expect it to be. The kitchen has open lower cabinets where little kids can reach all of the dishes so if you're bringing your little ones here, plan to be blocking off the kitchen and wood stove! Just an FYI as we absolutely loved it at the cabin and will be staying there again if available! Super easy drive to downtown FB and Mendocino!

We absolutely loved our stay at the black cabin! It was so peaceful and quiet - exactly what we were hoping for! The cabin was very cozy and we had a lot of fun playing games and our 6 year old daughter loved hunting for banana slugs!
I also appreciated that they're dog friendly - Mendocino is such a dog friendly county and it was wonderful having a place we could bring our pups along for the fun.
The location is also great cause it's located near both fort Bragg and Mendocino and some of our favorite beaches! Definitely a great place to stay!

This cabin was a perfect stay for my family of 5! There was enough room to accommodate for all of us comfortably, the beds were super comfy too! The kitchen is well equipped & has every cooking appliance you need, we prefer cooking a lot of our own meals instead of eating out the whole time, so it was prefect! We also were not comfortable with using a wood stove heater, so we took two small space heaters and they kept the cabin at a perfect temperature! I definitely recommend this cute place to any person who is visiting Fort Bragg!

The Black Cabin, was exactly as represented. Very cozy and had everything we needed for a quick weekend away. The hosts responded promptly the couple of times we reached out and were very accommodating. The wood stove heated the cabin quite well. The only thing we would point out for future renters is the ceiling slopes down to the kitchen and was several inches too short for my very tall (6'6") husband to stand at the counter, but really that's his fault for being so dang tall. Overall a great weekend.

Beautiful and spacious home! We loved having breakfast outside on the picnic table and sun bathing on the deck. Comfy lounge set up with a tv and board games. The main bedroom was comfortable and we loved opening the curtains to see the trees. We didn't use the other room since it was just 2 of us and our dog. The fireplace helped keep the living room warm, but we brought a small heater for the bedroom. Location was great and close to the Mendocino Botanical gardens and other hiking areas.

The black cabin is a rustic retreat in a great location near Fort Bragg. The kitchen is stocked, the linens were fresh, and the location is near great hiking and beaches.
As stated in the overview, in the winter months the only heat is from a stove in the living room. I would consider bringing a space heater if you're going to use both bedrooms and the larger bedroom is a bit cooler and further away from the stove.
Overall, we had a great and cozy stay at the cabin in the woods.

This little two bedroom cabin sitting tucked away in what it feels like your own private forest is absolutely amazing! This was by far the best part of my trip exploring the West Coast. The cabin is less than 5 mi from Glass Beach. The neighborhood is a nice walk with your dog in the morning and some of the neighbors even sell fresh eggs.
Ben, Benjamin, and Mitch are super accommodating and willing to answer any questions. Don't give this home a second thought. Book it now!
